The photovoltaic becomes even more green with the use of sustainable materials. The company BioSolar has just launched on the market photovoltaic panels which include organic components. THE photovoltaic modules are coated with a protective film based on Petroleum, the company BioSolar replaced this coating with a patented organic-based material, more precisely cotton and castor beans.

L'solar power will be produced by muduli made, at least in part, with renewable sources. BioSolar, working with castor beans, she managed to extract a nylon-like polyamide resin, to which a raw cellulosic fiber was added. The result is a very resistant organic-based material that exhibits the same characteristics as petroleum derivatives: mechanical resistance, dimensional stability, resistance to atmospheric agents, electromagnetic properties…. all the necessary specifications required by the applications of the photovoltaic sector.

In the professional field, the photovoltaic coating is called "backsheet". The most economically relevant factor are the production costs: a backsheet a base organic it's cheaper than a backsheet based on plastics. Conventional backsheets are petroleum based and consist of multiple laminated layers of polyester (Tedlar) film, in contrast, the BIObacksheet it is given by a monolayer of organic matter.

Not only will the use of a petroleum derivative be avoided, but also the entire production process is more sustainable: to produce Tedlar films it is necessary to use massive doses of toxic solvents.

Environmental, economic, production and even yield benefits! Another determining factor is the greater thermal conductivity of the BIObacksheet which overall guarantees a longer life cycle. BioSolar is updating its customer portfolio, it seems that the material will be used to integrate photovoltaic panels on details electric vehicles.
